Accuracy over completeness
Where we cannot verify something, we say so. That produces less satisfying sentences than a confident number, and it is the single most important standard on this site.
The clearest example concerns crypto ATMs. Cabinet agreed in principle in June 2025 to ban them, and a great many outlets reported New Zealand as having banned crypto ATMs. In July 2026 Cabinet reversed, opting for powers to restrict cash transactions instead. The original reporting was wrong because an in-principle decision was presented as final. We try very hard not to do that.
Sourcing
Regulatory and legal statements come from primary sources: the Financial Markets Authority, the Department of Internal Affairs, Inland Revenue, the Serious Fraud Office, the Financial Service Providers Register, the Commerce Commission and ministerial releases on Beehive.govt.nz.
Platform information comes from operators' own published documentation. Corporate events come from company announcements and credible New Zealand business media. Where an important figure rests on a single source, we attribute it rather than stating it flatly.
Independence and commercial disclosure
Some outbound links may earn a commission. This is disclosed in the footer of every page. That revenue does not determine which platforms we cover, how they are ranked, what we write about them, or whether criticism is published.
We do not sell reviews, rankings, table positions or favourable coverage, and we do not accept copy written by a platform. No operator sees a review before publication. Any approach offering payment for coverage is declined.
What we will not publish
- Price predictions. Nobody can make them reliably and presenting one as analysis is misleading.
- Personalised financial advice. It is a regulated activity in New Zealand and we are not licensed.
- Urgency framing. No countdowns, no "limited allocation", no manufactured scarcity.
- Unverifiable claims about returns. Including operators' own marketing claims presented as fact.
- Directories we cannot keep current. A stale list of merchants or machines is worse than no list.
- Coverage of platforms on the FMA warning list, except as a warning.
Corrections
We publish corrections rather than editing quietly. If a factual error changes the meaning of a page, we fix it and note what changed. Typographical fixes and clarifications that do not change meaning are made without a note.
Corrections take priority over everything else in our queue. Email contact@exchangecrypto.nz with the page URL and the issue, and a source if you have one.
Review dates
Every page carries the date it was last reviewed. In a market where a fee schedule can change without notice and a platform can close within a quarter, an undated claim is close to worthless. If a figure looks stale, check the operator's own site and tell us.
Use of tools
We use software tools in research and drafting. Every page is reviewed against primary sources by a person before publication, and responsibility for accuracy rests with us regardless of what was used to produce a draft. We do not publish unreviewed generated text.
Conflicts
We have no ownership interest in any platform covered on this site, and no platform has an ownership interest in us. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed prominently on every page where it is relevant rather than in a footnote.
